If one thing is certain, it is that living in today’s world is uncertain. Humans like predictability and assurances that everything is going to be all right. It makes us feel safe and keeps our sympathetic nervous systems calm, cool, and collected. When we perceive a threat to our familiar routines, traditions, and patterns of daily living, we can experience mental distress.
The last two years living through a global pandemic have created anything but certainty in life. While the world attempts to move back to a semblance of normalcy, the future remains to be seen. We are all faced with accepting that life has changed, but change isn’t bad, simply different.
If you have let the stress and uncertainty of the past couple of years, put you into survival mode, stuck in a rut, or plain burned out, you can learn how to turn all of it around by learning to manage your mind.
The last two years were extremely difficult on my family. We had experienced a very traumatic event in late 2019 that turned our world upside down. But that was just the beginning. On top of an already stressful event, COVID compounded everything.
Personal, family, and friends’ health crisis, the death of my mother-in-law, job loss, kids being home schooled, my husband’s job stressors, not one, but two cancelled once in a lifetime vacation, and the list goes on.
While it could have been easy to throw myself a pity party and say fuck it, I’ll just lay in bed, snuggle with my cat, and drink a bottle of Prosecco every night, instead I took a long hard look at my life and decide how I wanted to show up and keep living it.
I decided to turn lemons into lemonade. Step one, go after my dream of starting my own business. Crazy? Quite possibly, but I was willing to take the chance and stop letting the chaos of the world decide my future. I would be the driver of my own destiny.
I witness so many people just living day to day in the doldrum of life, wishing they had more, could do more, and be more. Everyone put life on hold, waiting for the world to go back to normal. I was done waiting. I was going to make shit happen. And guess what, you can too!
Simple, but not easy. The biggest challenge to any new goal is overcoming our brains who want to keep us in the safety and comfort of status quo. To pull off big bold ambitions, you must learn how to override the automatic safety features our brains like to throw at us to keep us in complacency.
When you learn how to restructure your current limiting thoughts and how to deal with unhelpful emotional reactions, you can regain control of your life to live a more balanced, peaceful, and meaningful existence. You can make shit happen too!
If you are ready to commit to making changes in your life that will start you down the road toward your new goals, you need several things: a path, a plan, a purpose, and a new mindset. Once you have those four things, you will be unstoppable.
If you are ready to change but don’t know how to get started, I can help. Let’s chat.
Yes, you can!
